DISSERTATION RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (DRIP)
The Human Health Division of the International Center of Insect Physiology and Ecology
(icipe), is looking for a Master of Science student to work on malaria vectors in a dry and rural ecosystem on Kenya.
The overall goal of the project is to conduct studies aimed at providing critical information on the ecology of malaria vectors in semi-arid ecosystems as a model for understanding the
dynamics of Anopheles mosquito populations and malaria transmission in these areas. The
MSc student will investigate the physiological adaptations and reproductive behavior of vector
species during extended periods of drought.
Qualifications:
The candidate would start the research work in October 2007. Some basic knowledge of
vector control and malaria transmission is required. Previous research experience will be an
added advantage. A Bachelor of Science with minimum of Upper 2nd class or equivalent is
required.
The student must be able to live and work for several months in Baringo district, Kenya.
Support under this program includes a modest monthly stipend and research costs for 12
months, to enable the qualified student to complete their MSc thesis. This position is open to
those students who have completed their first year formal course work.

3. At least 2 letters of recommendation from persons who can be able to attest to the
applicant’s work and study habit, and
