The NCCR Nanosciences (http://www.nccr-nano.org) is a centre for
multi-disciplinary research which is operated by the University of Basel. In the
‘Nanolab’ we are interested in supra-molecular surface assemblies for the
engineering of ultimately small entities with well defined properties.
New properties of supra-molecular assemblies on solid substrates shall be
investigated in this project which is co-funded by the European Union. We expect
to gain new insights in the interrelation between the structure of the molecular
building blocks and the assembly and function of supra-molecular devices. The
Nanolab (http://monet.physik.unibas.ch/gue/nanolab/) is looking for
PhD students (two positions) and Postdoctoral Researcher in Surface Science /
Nanoscience Your tasks
In collaboration with colleagues and partners from ETH Zurich, University
Trieste and BASF, among others, you will assemble molecular building blocks into
dedicated assemblies and characterize their properties. Mainly, the samples will
be characterized by scanning probe microscopy (STM, STS and AFM) at variable
temperatures, but also by photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS and UPS) and low
energy electron diffraction (LEED). The job also includes a teaching obligation
for the Physics or Nanoscience curriculum.
Your profile
We seek for a highly motivated individual who enjoys working in a small team of
scientists with different disciplinary background. A diploma or masters degree
in materials science, physics, chemistry, nanoscale science or related field is
expected. Experience in one of the above mentioned methods is higly desirable
but could be compensated by an extra effort and a high level of motivation of
the candidate.
PhD students will be registered at the University of Basel.
