Novel Approaches to the Surveillance of Adverse Events in Australasian Intensive Care Units

One position currently available

This project will aim to develop and apply novel surveillance methods for adverse events in Australasian intensive care patients, including mortality, nosocomial infection and increased length of stay, with a primary focus on paediatric intensive care units. Data will be obtained from existing surveillance activities of the Australian and New Zealand Paediatric Intensive Care Registry (ANZPIC) and will be funded by the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS). The student will be enrolled in a PhD programme at the School of Population Health, University of Queensland.

The student will be trained in and required to learn the following techniques: Statistical control charts; Bayesian statistical modelling; time-series and random-effects statistical modelling; syndromic surveillance methods; scientific report, publication and thesis writing.

Successful candidates will have a background in statistics, epidemiology, public health, medicine, surgery, intensive care or other quantitative biological or health-related fields.
