is available for 3 years within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence
in the DFG-Research Center for Functional Nanostructures (CFN).

Applicants should be physicists interested to work in the interdisciplinary
field of nanobiology or biologists with a strong background in optics and
photonics The project involves the buildup of a multiple optical tweezer based
on acousto-optical-deflectors (AOD) and an adaptation of the setup for
biological applications. Biological experiments will include manipulation of
cell adhesion and neurite outgrowth.

The project is an interdisciplinary approach between the groups of C. Bechinger
(University Stuttgart, Faculty of Physics,
http://www.pi2.uni-stuttgart.de/contact/index.php) and M. Bastmeyer (University
Karlsruhe, Faculty for Chemistry and Biosciences,
http://www.zi1.uni-karlsruhe.de/). The laboratory will be located a the
University Karlsruhe and offers state of the art facilities and equipment in the
fields of cell biology, microscopy, and surface preparation.

Universität Karlsruhe (TH) aims to increase the representation of women among
the staff and therefore explicitly encourages applications from female
scientists Universität Karlsruhe (TH) is an equal opportunity employer and will
give preference to disabled candidates having the same qualifications as their
