PhD position in statistics
At the department of statistics of the university of innsbruck there
is a phD position available for four years starting October 1st, 2007
(or later). The net wage is approximately 17000 Euro per year based on
a teaching load of (only) 2 hours a week.

The scope of the research is the development of complex
semiparametric regression models including model choice and variable
selection. There is also a strong link to spatial statistics and
multilevel models. The methodological development is motivated by
international collaborations within the following areas: development
economics (undernutrition and mortality in developing countries),
marketing, ecology (health status of trees, storm damage data), real
estate management, insurance statistics etc.

The candidate should

have a diploma or masters degree in statistics,
mathematics, econometrics, economics (with good knowledge in
statistics) or related fields
have good programming skills in C, C++, R or similar
have good knowledge in statistics and probability theory
be interested in interdisciplinary research and statistical consulting
